Bruno Fernandes Hints at Manchester United Exit Following Europa League Final Loss

The Manchester United captain has attracted interest from multiple clubs

After suffering heartbreak in the Europa League final, Bruno Fernandes offered insight into his future at Manchester United.

As captain of the Red Devils, the Portuguese international had aspired to secure major trophies. However, at San Mamés in Bilbao, he watched Tottenham Hotspur battle their way to a European triumph, leaving United empty-handed once again in what has been a deeply disappointing season.

Amid the club’s struggles, Fernandes has remained at the center of transfer speculation, with interest reportedly coming from Real Madrid and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

The 30-year-old midfielder is under contract with United until at least 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year. Speaking after the final, Fernandes made it clear that he intends to stay—unless the club decides a sale is necessary to raise funds.

When asked about his future by reporters shortly after missing out on yet another trophy, Bruno Fernandes responded:

"I’ve always said I’ll be here until the club tells me it’s time to go. I’m committed and eager to achieve more—to help bring this club back to its greatest days.

If the day comes when the club feels I’m no longer part of the plan, or they decide to move on to generate funds, that’s part of football—you never know what can happen. But I stand by what I’ve always said: I’m here until the club decides otherwise."

Bruno Fernandes remains hopeful that fellow Portuguese manager Rúben Amorim will be given the chance to lead another rebuild at Manchester United, despite a challenging start that has seen him win just 15 of his 41 games in charge. The United captain has pledged his commitment to the club through at least the 2025–2026 season.

United have one final fixture this campaign—a home clash against top-five contenders Aston Villa on Sunday. Currently sitting 16th in the Premier League table, United have failed to secure qualification for any European competition next season. Following the end of their domestic schedule, the squad is set to travel to the Far East for a series of post-season friendlies.
